    Abstract

    This article deals with the encounter of “self” and “the “other” in the Iranian characters of the play Ja’far Khan is back from Europe by Hassan Moghaddam. This play is one of the most important plays of the early 20th century in Iran, and expresses the generation gap and the cultural differences between a very traditional Iranian family and their young son (Ja’far khan), who has recently come back to Iran after finishing his higher educations in Europe. The members of Ja’far khan’s family have made so many arrangements for the newcomer, and are extremely shocked to find out that Ja’far khan has totally changed to a person with European life style, and does not care about the Iranian traditions at all.     Abstract

    This study investigates the social functions of Mazandaran ancient rituals and examines the relationship between dramatic rituals and indigenous cultures from the past, and the effect of traditions left by the ancestors in today's society. Geographical domain of this study is entire Mazandaran from East to West, and it is tried to consider the quality of performing the rituals and sanctity of these rituals. This study includes an overview of research, literature and research history, theories of social function of dramatic rituals of Mazandaran, data analysis, and discussion and conclusion. Library and field methods are used to collect the required data on a large scale.

    Abstract

    Land Reforms Program and abolishing feudalism as a part of Modernization in Iran and Russia are considered as one the most influent passages in social and political changes. Anton Chekhov in “The Cherry Orchard” and Akbar Radi in “The Magnificent Smile of Mr. Gill” are using the Land reforms and the fall of aristocracy in Iran and Russia as background and reveal the influences on characters of different social classes. These two dramas are based on authoritarian modernization in Era of Pahlavi II in Iran and Nicholas II in Russia which was done very quickly. Therefore these works can be used as appropriate references for comparative history studies about fall of landlords. Both works have a critical point of view to modernization. B

    Abstract

    In this article we compare two epic Heroes from two different environments, Rustam from the Iranian epic literature and Kocholin from the Irish Dramatic Literature. A comparative study of those two heroes allowed us to evaluate and assess the theatrical and narrative possibility and capability of Ferdowsi's Rustam and Sohrab story. When taking into consideration and comparing the action of Rustam and Kocholin, the importance of our study becomes comprehensible since both of them ended up killing their own son. In this study, the decisions, undertakings and actions of the two heroes from the beginning till the end of their stories was compared thoroughly and we showed that between those two epics many similarities exist, which indicate that
